With a major shift in economic changes over the past few years the employment market has been hit severely. With fewer graduate jobs available many graduates are struggling to find work in a stable environment. However, one thing that has been noticed is an increase in the starting graduate salaries. For the first time since 2008 new figures have been displayed by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) which illustrates a 2% rise in the starting salary which equates to £25,000 a year. It has also known that new job vacancies have increased by 8.9% when comparing the difference between 2008 and 2011.
The chief executive of the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) Carl Gilleard explained that this is positive news and very encouraging signs for graduates who are leaving university. With an increase in starting salaries as well as the amount of available job vacancies for graduate's, things seem like they are getting better. However, he said he remains cautiously optimisitic about the findings in the data as it displays a glimmer of hope that the graduate recruitment market is breaking through the long lasting effects of the recession.
